The Texas Longhorns Men's Basketball team showed resilience despite flaws, securing a 68-66 victory over NC State in the First Four matchup in Dayton, Ohio. Texas' press offense faltered late, allowing the Longhorns to lose a nine-point lead with less than three minutes remaining. However, Tramon Mark's jumper with 1.1 seconds left sealed the win.
With this win, Texas officially advances to the NCAA Tournament. The victory in what was formerly known as the play-in game earned Texas the No. 11 seed in the West Region. The Longhorns will face No. 6 seed BYU in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday.
Mark's game-winning shot was his fifth of the season, contributing to more than a quarter of Texas' wins. After building a nine-point lead late in the second half, Texas struggled against NC State's full-court press, which allowed the Wolfpack to rally back.
As NC State closed the gap, Mark remained composed, hitting two crucial jumpers in the final minute to secure the victory.
